Position: Senior Staff Attorney – General Liability (Tort)

Location: Boston , MA Remote (Must reside in MA or RI; travel within MA/RI required)

Employment Type: Contract

Compensation: $120/hour to $150/hour (DOE)

Overview

A leading national insurance organization is seeking an experienced Senior Staff Attorney to manage complex general liability and auto liability matters. This fully remote role supports claims partners and insureds across Massachusetts and Rhode Island, handling litigation from inception through resolution. The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and demonstrates strong legal judgment, ownership of cases, and exceptional client service.

Key Responsibilities

• Independently manage a full caseload of complex general liability and auto litigation matters.
• Analyze legal and factual issues and develop sound defense strategies.
• Draft and argue motions, pleadings, discovery, and legal memoranda.
• Conduct and defend depositions; prepare witnesses and experts.
• Represent clients in hearings, mediations, and alternative dispute resolution proceedings.
• Provide timely legal guidance to internal claims partners.
• Communicate professionally with courts, opposing counsel, insureds, and internal stakeholders.
• Maintain compliance with internal procedures and performance expectations.

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school.
• Active bar admission in Massachusetts and Rhode Island (New Hampshire a plus).
• Minimum 7 years of experience handling general liability and/or auto liability litigation.
• Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage cases independently.
• Highly organized, self-directed, and comfortable working in a remote environment.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and legal case management systems.
